Landacapes by Rudy Dones

For tourism and professional reasons I have the opportunity to travel, to meet new countries, to live different realities ... born then charm that these places have exercised on me, the reasons for my interest in photography of landscape character. I intend my work on this artistic side not as a simple reproduction or documentation of images and visions that I have been given, but as a personal photographic interpretation of the places I've lived in the first way emotionally ... trying to mediate and transfer these sentiments through photographic technique ...

The places and landscapes that I portrait are documented in my personal web site, www.rudydones.com, along with countless other artistic photographic projects.

Among the places photographed find images of Capri, Fregate, Fuerteventura, Kunfunadhoo, Mahe, Morretes, Pafos, Pantelleria, Tortola, VirginGorda from Sicily, ...

Landscape photo : technical notes

The term photo landscape refers both to the technique that allows images to create the effect of light, is an image obtained with this technique, and more generally to an art form that uses this technique.

The word photo landscape originated from two Greek words: photos and graphia. Literally then photo landscape means writing (spelling) with the light (photos). He originates from the convergence of the results obtained by many investigators both in the field of optics, with the development of darkroom as well as of chemical, with the study of photosensitive substances. The first darkroom was built long before they were set for the proceedings with the chemical means optical image produced by it, its first applications for photography came with Niepce, which is usually attributed the invention of photography landscape.

Photographing a landscape means represent a grandiose spectacle natural or citizen, but also achieve a sequence of images of detail that together reconstruct the landscape or the feeling that it wants to give the photographer. It is not obvious, in fact, that the yield faithful of a landscape as we see it is that which is beautiful the photographic image often is necessary to introduce changes that could improve the technical and facilitate accordingly reading. In this way we interpreted the person or event by those background notes that there seem more significant.

The choice is therefore the frame of basic importance, as the mastery of photographic instruments.

The exhibition of landscape photography

Describe correctly
An exact exposure does not mean always take with exposure values chosen from the camera. Knowing the rules to fund the exhibition is the starting point for improving the yield of photos of the landscape.
The exposure depends on three factors: the time of shooting, which is set on the body of the camera, the diaphragm that rule on the type of FOIL that you choose to use.
The time shooting defines the duration of exposure, the diaphragm rule of the opening, the film tells the extent to which it will react chemically the intensity of light to which the put.
Here we limit to summarize the effects that different choices exposure times, opening up the diaphragm and type of film will have on photos we want to take.

Photography realized with a time of filling long enough to create an effect of moderate.
The time of shooting
Change the time shooting means affect the way in which the movement of the subject is impressed. This fact is of great importance when you want to make the movement of water flowing, the slight crimp dell'erba move by the breeze, or the movement of the fronds of the trees swept by a strong wind.
The lower the exposure time, the image appears as frozen and devoid of any original motion, it gains in clarity and precision of side dishes. However longer be necessary if you want to create effects of moderate. On this front, as on others, creativity and subjectivity of the photographer assume great importance in building a staff.
The diaphragm
Amend the opening of the diaphragm means vary the size of the opening through which light passes. Open means increasing the light that passes, close it means reducing the amount of light reaching the film.
The couple time / diaphragm
Time shutter and aperture are a pair indissoluble. After establishing what is the correct exposure, you can change the exposure time is the opening of the diaphragm, provided that the change of a factor is accompanied by an equivalent of the change from their combination should always lead exposure correct.
However, the choice of the couple time / diaphragm is not without its involvement, because the values vary images will also substantially different, though equally correct only the profile of exposure, because it varies the depth of field and the yield of the movement.

Landscape - The light

The lighting
The illumination may be direct light, side or backlighting. The type of lighting of the subject influences on the effect of recovery.
The direct lighting eliminates the shadows and is unsuitable when it is essential to give a sense of depth. E 'but the best light because the subject is evenly illuminated.

Lighting direct.
Its opposite is the light: the subject is placed between the camera and light source. In this case the perception of the human eye is very different compared to the possibility of recording on film from the camera: what we see asset is almost always recorded very badly on the film, because of the strong imbalance in lighting.

Lighting the background.
The side lighting is the middle road between the two views, it gives prominence to the thickness, the parties in the shade than enlightened. The light grazing is the highest exaltation of that side.

Lighting side.
The effects of light
The light may also have a different effect depending on the characteristics of the light source. When the sun is high in the sky, the light source can be considered a point and it creates big differences between the exhibition grey tones and sunny. The tone chromatic it suffers not risaltando contrast of color, but rather that of party shadow than enlightened.
See how the light changes throughout the day: the front light illuminates the whole subject, that of cutting gives him a three-dimensional effect and that behind the turns into a silhouette.
In cloudy days the light is diffused and shadows are almost non-existent. The result is that of a general flattening of depth.
The effect of light on color is very variable. The colors appear warmer at sunset and at dawn, the coldest days in sunny.
Recognizing these and other changes leading to the choice of the best time to make the shot.

When and how to photograph
The landscape to photograph should be known under its various aspects, observed in different times of day and, if possible, under different weather and climate. With a little 'training can predict what landscapes from the same place are more appealing in the evening and what the morning, learning to reach the landscapes that lend hand to carry out a photo or a back during the days with little sun.
Despite the importance of light, landscape photography is rather a gender priorities diaphragms, chosen which define the time of exposure.
The beautiful light that allows us to take a picture of our expectations is not said, however, coincides with the light of beautiful sunny days, during which we can certainly enjoy a good lighting, but it will be the right one?
A cloudy sky at times or even mostly cloudy, before a thunderstorm, produces a landscape and often countered by various stage effects and sometimes even disturbing, that makes it so much more attractive a perfect clear skies.

A good idea is to photograph the same place in different seasons and at different hours of the day, to refine the sensitivity to different lighting and try to provide, for a place known as may be his appearance and his " fotogenicità "under conditions meteoclimatiche still not directly experienced by the photographer.

Landscape - With the fog

The presence of fog often discourages the most daring of photographers and certainly those who think that the quality of an image depends primarily on ideal weather conditions, represented by the day serene.
The fog makes the dense atmosphere and reduces the contrast of colors, these are generally considered harmful effects made for a good photo, but we must not absolutely underestimate the fact that some landscapes under the fog create atmospheres magical and evocative. Some areas of our regions are frequently characterized by this atmospheric phenomenon, which may even enrich the landscape with fleeting presences and unreal. It may be useful to use a UV filter to correct the effect azzurrognolo that the haze has on the film. The filter polarizer in such cases is often ineffective.
The best time to take pictures of landscape with fog is that of overcast, when the desks are in motion. The night mist enhances the effect because the beams of light reflected on water droplets creating surreal images.
The best results are obtained sovraesponendo of one or two diaphragms, but it's always good to achieve more frames for each image, trying different exposures. The same measure is used to photograph the bruma in the valleys and water, when the exposure of the machine can be easily deceived by whiteness.
The film is placed virtually immune from the haze, but its use is restricted to those who love photos rather inusitate.

Landscape from an airplane

The best results are obtained during flights aboard a small aircraft that tourism can enjoy a broad overview. You can often open the windows and photographing unhindered front of the camera.
On airliners recovery is more complex because of the porthole windows that are thick, small and usually very dirty.
Often the best photos are obtained during takeoff or landing, thanks to the significant presence of elements such as hills, buildings, roads or whatever, share we are dealing only with sky and clouds, which probably will not in the photo experienced the same emotions alive.
photographers-naturalists-photographer-of-naturaProblemi are typical data from vibrations of the fuselage and reflections glass window, you can try using a rubber hood supported directly to glass, in any case we must use exposure times of 1 / 250 so shorter. To mitigate the effect of reflections caused by glass dell'oblò you can use a filter polarizer.
It is good to make a reading of the ground and then a flight, the comparison of two exhibition allows you to choose the best.
Even in this case the shadows help define the features of the landscape, so it is good to choose the morning of days serene and without haze. Using a UV filter..
